CSCS Revision App
The official apps are published by CITB, not CSCS, which is why searching the app store for “CSCS” turns up a wall of copies. There are two that matter: one for the Operatives and Specialist tests, and a separate one for Managers and Professionals. Everything else is somebody else's question bank.
Nothing to install
Our mock runs in the browser you already have open, to the real length and the real clock, for nothing. Use it to find out whether you need an app at all.
The two official CITB apps
| App | For | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| HS&E test mobile app for operatives and specialists | Operatives and all 12 specialisms | Android and iOS. Includes a realistic test simulation and a voiceover in the languages CITB lists |
| CITB MAP revision app | Managers and Professionals | Android and iOS, also in Welsh. £7.29. Updates within 12 months of purchase are free |
For MAP there is also a streamlined PC download at £12.75 if you would rather revise at a desk, and the CSCS revision book in print. Buying the wrong one of these is the common error: GT100 covers Operatives and Specialists, GT200 covers MAP, and they are not interchangeable.
What the app is genuinely better at
One thing, and it is a real one. The official app simulates the actual test, including the question formats built around the terminal itself. A browser mock cannot reproduce those faithfully, which is something we say on our own CSCS touch screen test page rather than pretending otherwise.
It also carries CITB's own wording, and CITB is the organisation that writes the exam. If you want the closest thing to sitting the real test before you sit the real test, that is it.
What a free browser mock is better at
- Finding out where you stand today, without paying first. You can be five minutes from knowing whether you have a problem.
- Drilling one weak area. Our practice questions by topic let you hammer working at height on its own rather than re-sitting a full 50 to see the same four questions.
- Explanations you can read. Every answer carries a written explanation, on a page, in text, which is easier to skim back over than an app screen.
- Any device, no install.Including the site canteen on somebody else's phone.
Nobody fails this test because of the drag and drop. They fail it because 45 out of 50 is a harsh pass mark and they had four weak topics.
Watch out for the copies
Search either app store for CSCS and you will find a long list of paid apps that are not CITB's. Some are decent, some recycle question banks of unknown age, and none of them are the official simulation. Check the publisher before you pay, and remember that the exam itself is booked through CITB and Pearson VUE for £23.50 no matter which app you revised with.
We earn nothing from any app. If that changes it will be disclosed here and in our affiliate disclosure.
App names, platforms, the Welsh MAP version, the £7.29 and £12.75 prices and the free 13-question MAP sample verified against citb.co.uk, July 2026. Prices change; check the store listing.
CSCS revision apps: common questions
- Is there an official CSCS revision app?
- Yes, though it is branded CITB rather than CSCS. For the Operatives and Specialist tests it is the HS&E test mobile app for operatives and specialists, on both Google Play and the App Store. For the Managers and Professionals test there is a separate CITB MAP revision app.
- How much does the CITB app cost?
- CITB publishes £7.29 for the MAP revision app. The Operatives and Specialists app is sold through the app stores and through the CITB shop as one of the GT100 formats. Prices move, so check the store listing rather than trusting any figure on a third party site, including this one.
- What does the official app do that a website cannot?
- It simulates the real test, including the question formats built around a touch screen that a browser mock cannot reproduce faithfully. If you want to rehearse the mechanics rather than just the knowledge, that is what you are paying for.
- Do I need the app if I use free mock tests?
- Not usually. Free mocks cover the knowledge and the timing, which is what nearly everyone fails on. The app adds the screen mechanics and CITB's own wording. Plenty of people pass having used only free mocks and the revision book.
- Does the app come in other languages?
- The Operatives revision app offers a voiceover in the languages CITB lists on its prepare for the test page, and the MAP app is also available in Welsh.
- Is there a free official sample?
- For the Managers and Professionals test, yes. CITB publishes a free 13-question sample test. It is a taste of the question types rather than a substitute for revision, and CITB says as much.
