CSCS Practice Test

CSCS Managers & Professionals (MAP) Mock Test

The MAP test is required for the Black Manager card and several professional cards. It was updated in June 2023 and is no longer role-specific, so revise broadly. Format: 50 questions, 45 minutes, pass mark 45/50 (90%).

CITB HS&E MAP Mock Test — core knowledge (timed)

  • 50 questions · 45 minutes · pass mark 90%
  • Timed, exam conditions — answers are revealed at the end, just like the real CITB HS&E test.
  • Some questions need more than one answer — these are clearly marked.

The five MAP test sections

  1. ALegal and management
  2. BOccupational health, wellbeing and welfare

What the MAP test asks that the Operatives test does not

The knowledge overlaps heavily, but the framing changes. Operatives questions ask what a hazard looks like and what you personally should do about it. MAP questions ask what you do with authority: who holds which duty under CDM 2015, what you are entitled to stop, and what the law requires you to write down. The commercially convenient answer, carrying on or sorting it later, is reliably the wrong one.

Duty holders, not just hazards

CDM 2015 splits duties between client, principal designer, principal contractor, contractor and worker. Many MAP questions turn on which of those five you are being asked about.

What has to be recorded

The construction phase plan, the health and safety file, the F10 notification, risk assessments where five or more are employed, and demolition arrangements in writing before work begins.

Not role-specific since June 2023

The test was updated so it no longer targets a particular job title. Revise all five sections rather than the one closest to your role.

Leading indicators, not just accidents

HSE’s Plan, Do, Check, Act guidance asks for preventive information such as training progress to carry weight alongside incident data such as accident and sickness absence rates.

Dedicated MAP bank — in production

Dedicated MAP mocks are in production. Much of the underlying health, safety and environment knowledge overlaps with the Operatives test, so the Operatives mock test is a strong starting point while you wait. Work your weak areas in the 21 topic question banks first — the leadership and management bank and the CDM regulations bank carry most of the MAP-specific ground. If you supervise rather than manage, check the Supervisory specialist test instead, and confirm which Black CSCS Card (Manager) you are most likely applying for before booking.
