How to Book the CSCS HS&E Test

Booking the CSCS test step by step: confirm which test you need, book with Pearson VUE online or by phone on 0344 994 4488, request any support in advance rather than on the day, then turn up 15 minutes early with photo and signature ID. 23.50 pounds per attempt, 72 hours for free changes, 5 pounds to reschedule by phone, 10 pounds to cancel by phone.

The test is run by CITB and delivered at Pearson VUE test centres across the UK. Booking takes a few minutes — but only book once your mock scores are consistently at or above 90%.

Ways to book

  • Online: through the official CITB / Pearson VUE booking site.
  • By phone: 0344 994 4488 (Mon–Fri 8am–8pm, Sat 8am–12pm). Welsh-language line: 0344 994 4490.
  • Group bookings (4+):via CITB's Navigator Group Booking System.

Rescheduling and cancelling

  • Reschedule free online up to 72 hours before the test; a £5 fee applies by phone.
  • Cancel online at least 72 hours before for a full refund; phone cancellations carry a £10 admin fee.
  • No changes or refunds within 72 hours of the appointment.

Where you sit it changes the rules

There are two kinds of venue and they do not work the same way. A Pearson Professional Centre is Pearson VUE’s own test centre, booked directly, and it is where CITB’s reasonable adjustments are offered for candidates who need them. An Internet Test Centre is an approved third-party venue, often a training provider, and booking usually runs through that centre rather than through Pearson’s site.

That distinction catches people out, because an ITC may require a voucher bought from them beforehand rather than a card payment on the day. Sort that before you travel. The full comparison is on CSCS test centres.

If you need a reasonable adjustment, arrange it when you book, not on the day. Some are available in the online booking journey: for the Operatives test that includes a voiceover in any of 14 languages, and a British Sign Language video. Others must be booked through CITB’s Adjustments team on 0344 994 4491 or at citb.adjustments@pearson.com, including a translator, a reader, or a reader-recorder who records your answers as you give them.

Worth knowing: extra time is not something you request on its own. If you sit the test with a translator, reader, reader-recorder or BSL interpreter, CITB provides a separate room and extra time as part of that arrangement. CITB also warns that waiting times for an appointment may be longer, because it has to assign a qualified person, so book earlier than you otherwise would.

On test day

  • Arrive at least 15 minutes early.
  • Bring your booking confirmation and valid photo and signature ID (check the full ID policy on citb.co.uk).
  • Keep your score report after passing — it is required for the CSCS card application.
