Is the CSCS touch screen test the same as the CITB HS&E test?

Yes. There is one exam. CITB sets it and calls it the Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test, Pearson VUE delivers it on a touch screen terminal, and CSCS issues the card you use it for. Workers name it after whichever part of that they met first, which is why the same test is searched for as the CSCS test, the CITB test and the touch screen test.

Do I have to be good with computers to pass?

No. The interface is a question, a set of large buttons and a next arrow. There is a short tutorial before the clock starts, so the time you spend learning the screen does not come out of your 45 minutes. If you can use a cash machine you can use the test terminal.

Can I go back and change an answer?

Yes. You can move between questions and revise an answer at any point before you submit, and you can flag a question to come back to. That is why the usual advice is to answer everything quickly on the first pass and spend what is left on the flagged ones.

Are there question types the online mocks cannot copy?

There is no separate touch screen exam. It is the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test, sat on a touch screen terminal at a Pearson Professional Centre, and the name stuck because the screen is the part most people remember. Same 50 questions, same 45 minutes, same 45 out of 50 to pass.

Why the same test has three names

Three organisations touch this exam and each leaves its name on it. CITB writes it and calls it the Health, Safety and Environment test. Pearson VUE runs the centres and puts it on a touch screen. CSCS issues the card you needed it for in the first place, and there are 13 CSCS card types to choose between.

So “CSCS touch screen test”, “CITB test” and “CSCS test” are one thing. If a site sells you a “touch screen test” as a separate product, it is selling you revision material for the test you were already booking.

What the screen actually does

The interface is deliberately plain, because it has to work for people who use a keyboard daily and people who do not touch one from one year to the next.

A tutorial first. You get a short walkthrough of the controls before the exam begins. It does not eat into your 45 minutes. Use it rather than clicking past it.
One question at a time, with the answer options as large buttons. You touch an option to select it and touch it again to deselect.
A countdown on screen. You always know how long is left, which matters at roughly 54 seconds a question.
Flag and review. You can mark a question to return to and move freely between questions until you submit.
Multi-answer questions are labelled. The screen tells you how many answers it wants. You score the mark only when every correct option is selected.

Our mock mirrors all of that: a timer, a question navigator, flagging, and multi-answer questions marked as such. What it cannot mirror is the formats that need a real touch screen.

The formats a web mock cannot reproduce

Being straight about this is more useful than pretending otherwise. The real test uses some question types built around the screen itself, and no free web mock reproduces them faithfully. For those, CITB's own app and revision materials are the right tool, and we would rather send you there than lose you a fee pretending we cover it.

What a mock like ours is genuinely good for is the other 90% of the problem: knowing the answers, and knowing them fast enough. Nobody fails this test because of the drag-and-drop.
