The CITB HS&E test is delivered by Pearson VUE at centres across the UK. There are two kinds, and the difference matters if you are paying with a voucher.
One thing to settle first, because the name misleads people. An Internet Test Centre is a room you travel to, not a way of sitting the CITB test online from home. You book over the internet, then you sit the exam at a centre, either a Pearson Professional Centre or an ITC. There is no at-home option, and CITB Test Online sets out what the internet actually covers.
Pearson Professional Centres
Pearson's own test centres. These are the only places where CITB test vouchers can be redeemed, and where the full range of reasonable adjustments is offered.
Internet Test Centres (ITCs)
Approved local centres, often training providers, that deliver the test. You can book directly with an ITC. Note that not every ITC appears on CITB's map, so it is worth ringing local providers too.

- Use the Pearson VUE test-centre search on the official CITB booking journey and enter your postcode or town.
- Select the test type you need first (Operatives, Specialist or MAP) because availability differs by centre.
- For an ITC, use CITB's “find an Internet Test Centre” page, or contact local construction training providers directly.

CITB states that not all Internet Test Centres appear on its map, so treat these as the centres CITB currently lists in and around each city rather than as a complete list. Always confirm on CITB's own booking page before you travel.
CSCS test centres in London
4 Pearson Professional Centres and 12 Internet Test Centres currently listed
These are the centres CITB currently lists in and around London, plus the Professional Centres that Pearson VUE's own locator returns for the city. CITB states on its booking page that "Not all ITCs are currently featured on the ITC Map", so treat this as a starting point and ring local training providers too. London has more listed venues than anywhere else on this page, but they run from Croydon to Harrow, so search by your postcode rather than by the word London.
- London is the only city CITB gives a heading of its own in its Internet Test Centre list. Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds are buried inside a regional heading instead, so London candidates get the easiest starting point of the four.
- That heading still does not settle it. On 23 August 2026 CITB filed a Wandsworth centre under South West, a Southall centre under North, a Barking centre under Midlands and East and a Dagenham centre under South East, so reading the London heading on its own misses centres that sit inside Greater London.
- CITB publishes two lists on one page and they do not agree. One Greater London centre, in Hainault, is a pin on the map with no matching row in the text list underneath it, which is a good reason to check both.
- Pearson VUE's locator returned four Professional Centres for London, in Southwark, the east of the city, Southgate and Croydon. A CITB test voucher can only be redeemed at a Pearson Professional Centre, so those four are the voucher venues on this list, and they are also where CITB arranges reasonable adjustments such as reading support or a BSL interpreter, at the point of booking.
- None of the London venues listed here has a W, WC, EC or NW postcode, so there is nothing on this list in the West End, the City or north west London.

The listed venues sit across the E, SE, SW, N, CR, HA, IG and RM postcode areas, which is most of the compass and a long way from end to end. Do not read a postcode area as a place name: addresses on this list still say Middlesex and Essex while sitting inside Greater London, and searching Pearson's locator by your own postcode beats typing London, because it sorts by straight line distance and a neighbouring borough is often nearer than a centre with London in its name.
London: common questions
- Where can I sit the CSCS test in London?
- At a Pearson Professional Centre or at a CITB Internet Test Centre. Pearson's locator returned four Professional Centres for the city, in Southwark, the east of the city, Southgate and Croydon, and CITB's own list carries eleven Internet Test Centres under its London heading. The exam is the same wherever you sit it: 50 questions, 45 minutes, 45 out of 50 to pass.
- Which London centres take a CITB test voucher?
- Only the Pearson Professional Centres. - Nothing on this list has a W, WC, EC or NW postcode. The nearest listed venue to the middle of town is the Pearson centre in Southwark. The Internet Test Centres run out to Canning Town and Leytonstone in the east, Harrow and Edgware to the north west, Fulham and Wandsworth in the south west, and Barking and Romford in the east, so most London candidates are travelling out rather than in.
- Can I take the CSCS test at home in London?
- No. An Internet Test Centre is a room you travel to, not a way of sitting the test at home. You book over the internet, then sit the exam in person at a Pearson Professional Centre or an ITC. CITB's booking page treats booking through an ITC as a separate route from booking online, and there is no at home option in either.
CSCS test centres in Birmingham

These are the centres CITB currently lists in and around Birmingham, plus the Professional Centre that Pearson VUE's locator returns for the city. Birmingham is better served than most: one Pearson Professional Centre in the city centre and three Internet Test Centres spread south and north east, so there is usually a real choice of venue as well as of date. CITB states on its booking page that "Not all ITCs are currently featured on the ITC Map", so if none of these suit, ring local training providers as well as checking the map.
- Five Internet Test Centres on CITB's map carry a B postcode, and three of them have a Birmingham address. The other two are in Redditch in Worcestershire and Tamworth in Staffordshire, which are separate towns. A B postcode on its own does not make a centre a Birmingham centre.
- The three Birmingham Internet Test Centres are well spread: one just south of the city centre at Highgate, one further south at Longbridge and one to the north east at Castle Bromwich. Choose on travel time, and never on the centre's name, because names on CITB's map are an unreliable guide to where a centre actually is.
- The Pearson Professional Centre is in the city centre, and it is the venue on this list that can take a CITB test voucher, because vouchers can only be redeemed at a Pearson Professional Centre. It is also where CITB arranges reasonable adjustments, such as reading support or a BSL interpreter, and those have to be requested when you book.
- Birmingham gets no heading of its own from CITB. It sits inside Midlands and East, one list of 23 centres running from the West Midlands across to East Anglia, and the rows give a name, an email and a website but no address, so the map is where the locations are.
- Around the city the map is thinner than you would expect. Across the DY, WV, WS and CV postcode areas, covering Dudley, Wolverhampton, Walsall and Coventry, CITB's map shows one Internet Test Centre, in the Walsall area. Birmingham itself is where the choice sits.

The listed venues are in the B postcode area, which is wider than the city: B also reaches Sutton Coldfield, Solihull, Redditch and Tamworth, so read the town in the address rather than the letters in the postcode. The neighbouring areas are DY for Dudley, WS for Walsall, WV for Wolverhampton and CV for Coventry, and searching Pearson's locator by your own postcode sorts by distance far better than typing Birmingham does.

- Where is the CSCS test centre in Birmingham?
- There is more than one. The Pearson Professional Centre is in the city centre, and CITB lists three Internet Test Centres with Birmingham addresses, at Highgate just south of the centre, at Longbridge in the south and at Castle Bromwich in the north east. The test is the same at each one: 50 questions, 45 minutes, 45 out of 50 to pass, and £23.50.
- How many CSCS test centres are there in Birmingham?

- Is a centre with a B postcode always in Birmingham?
- No, and this catches people out. The B area covers Redditch and Tamworth as well as Sutton Coldfield and Solihull, and two of the five B postcode centres on CITB's map are in those two towns, not in the city. Read the town line in the address before you plan the journey.
- What if the Birmingham centres are booked up?
- Look at the B postcode centres outside the city first, in Redditch and Tamworth, then at the Walsall area, which is the only one of Dudley, Wolverhampton, Walsall and Coventry with a centre on CITB's map. Searching Pearson's locator by postcode will also return Professional Centres beyond the city. The exam does not change with the venue, so the nearest free date usually beats the nearest building.
CSCS test centres in Manchester

These are the centres CITB currently lists in and around Manchester, plus the Professional Centre that Pearson VUE's locator returns for the city. This is a short section for an honest reason: of the 128 pins on CITB's Internet Test Centre map, exactly one has an M postcode. CITB also states that "Not all ITCs are currently featured on the ITC Map", so ringing training providers around Greater Manchester is worth the ten minutes here more than in most cities.
- One Internet Test Centre on CITB's map has an M postcode. For a city this size that is surprising, and it is the single most useful thing to know before you go looking for a date.
- The Pearson Professional Centre and that Internet Test Centre share a postcode district, a short way east of the city centre, so the two listed Manchester venues are close together rather than spread across the city. Your choice here is about dates, not about travel.
- A CITB test voucher can only be redeemed at a Pearson Professional Centre, so on this list that means the Manchester Professional Centre. It is also where CITB arranges reasonable adjustments such as reading support or a BSL interpreter, requested at the point of booking.

Manchester itself is the M postcode area, and the wider conurbation runs across BL for Bolton, OL for Oldham, SK for Stockport, WN for Wigan and WA for Altrincham and Warrington. A postcode area is not a place: the WA pin on CITB's map is in Warrington in Cheshire and the WN pin is in Skelmersdale in Lancashire, and neither is Greater Manchester.

Three venues are listed: one in the city centre and two out towards the edges, at Pudsey in the west and Stourton in the south east. CITB states on its booking page that "Not all ITCs are currently featured on the ITC Map", so it is worth ringing local training providers as well if the dates do not suit.

Leeds is the LS postcode area, and the West Yorkshire neighbours are BD for Bradford, WF for Wakefield, HD for Huddersfield and HX for Halifax. LS stretches a long way past the city centre, so an LS postcode is not a promise of a short trip: one listed centre is out at Pudsey towards Bradford and another at Stourton in the south east, and a Bradford or Wakefield centre may be the quicker journey from where you actually live.

Glasgow is a straightforward CSCS city. Scotland has no devolved replacement for the CSCS card, so a worker in Glasgow sits the same CITB HS&E test as everyone else in Great Britain: 50 questions, 45 minutes, 45 out of 50 to pass, £23.50. What follows are the centres CITB currently lists in and around Glasgow. Read it as a starting point rather than a finished set, because CITB states on its own booking page that not all Internet Test Centres are currently featured on the ITC Map.
- Scotland uses the same CSCS card and the same CITB HS&E test as England and Wales. There is no Scottish version of the exam and no Scottish pass mark.
- CITB does list a Scottish scheme, SCORE, the Scottish Construction Operatives Registration Executive. It is a separate registration card for experienced tradespeople, not a replacement for CSCS.
- Both venue types are represented here. Only a Pearson Professional Centre can take a CITB test voucher, and only a Pearson Professional Centre offers the full range of reasonable adjustments.
- Two of the centres listed under Glasgow have Glasgow in their address line but sit outside the Glasgow City boundary, in East Dunbartonshire and East Renfrewshire.
- One centre on CITB's Scotland list is named after a town in Wales and is actually in East Renfrewshire, a few miles from Glasgow. Centre names are branding, not geography.

The G postcode area is much wider than the city and takes in separate towns, including Cumbernauld in G68 and East Kilbride in G75, so a G postcode on its own does not prove a centre is in Glasgow. Step outside it and you are into PA for Paisley, ML for Motherwell and Hamilton, and KA for Kilmarnock and the rest of Ayrshire, all realistic for anyone with a car or a train ticket. Because two of the listed centres sit in neighbouring council areas despite saying Glasgow, and one is named after a Welsh town, check the postcode and the map pin before you commit to a journey.
Glasgow: common questions
- Is the CSCS test different in Scotland?
- No. The CITB HS&E test is identical wherever you sit it in Great Britain: 50 questions, 45 minutes, 45 out of 50 to pass, £23.50. Sitting it in Glasgow gives you exactly the same result as sitting it in Leeds.
- What is SCORE, and do I need it instead of a CSCS card?
- SCORE is the Scottish Construction Operatives Registration Executive, a Scottish registration scheme covering over 100 trades that CITB lists on its card schemes page. It is aimed at operatives with around ten years in the industry or valid trade lines, and a first application goes through a one day health and safety course rather than the CITB test. It is not a substitute for a CSCS card. If a principal contractor asks for CSCS, you still need the CITB HS&E test.
- Are the Glasgow centres listed here actually inside Glasgow?
- No, and this is worth ten minutes of checking. Two of the centres listed here carry Glasgow in their address line but sit in neighbouring council areas, East Dunbartonshire and East Renfrewshire. One is even named after a town in Wales. Judge the journey by the postcode, not by the name.
- Can I use a CITB test voucher at any Glasgow centre?
- No. Vouchers bought from CITB can only be redeemed at Pearson Professional Centres, not at Internet Test Centres. If you are holding a voucher, book the Pearson centre. The same rule decides your options if you need a voiceover, a British Sign Language video, a reader or a translator, because those adjustments are only offered at Pearson Professional Centres.

Wales has no construction card scheme of its own, so Cardiff runs on the same CSCS card and the same CITB HS&E test as the rest of Great Britain. The one local thing worth knowing before you book is that a CF postcode covers a very large slice of south east Wales, so most of the centres CITB currently lists in and around Cardiff are not in Cardiff. Treat the list below as what CITB and Pearson VUE currently publish rather than as a finished set, because CITB says not all Internet Test Centres are featured on its map.
- There is no Welsh equivalent of CSCS. CITB's card schemes page lists eleven schemes beside CSCS and not one of them is Wales specific.
- Of the nine Internet Test Centres in the CF postcode area on CITB's map, exactly one has a Cardiff address. The other eight are elsewhere in south east Wales.
- CITB runs a separate Welsh language booking line on 0344 994 4490, alongside the main line on 0344 994 4488.
- A Welsh voiceover is one of the reasonable adjustments you can request in the online booking journey, and reasonable adjustments are only offered at Pearson Professional Centres.

CF is a south east Wales postcode area, not a Cardiff one, and that single fact explains most wasted journeys here. It reaches Pontypridd in CF37, Caerphilly in CF83, Barry in CF63 and CF64, Bridgend in CF31 and Merthyr Tydfil in CF47. Cardiff's own districts are roughly CF3, CF5, CF10, CF11, CF14, CF15, CF23 and CF24, so it is the district number that tells you something, not the letters. Newport sits in NP rather than CF, which is worth remembering if you live east of the city and are searching by postcode area.
Cardiff: common questions
- Does Wales have its own version of the CSCS card?
- No. Unlike Northern Ireland, which runs the Construction Skills Register, Wales has no separate scheme. CITB's card schemes page names eleven schemes beside CSCS and none of them is Welsh, so the CSCS card and the CITB HS&E test are the route in Cardiff just as they are in England.
- Can I take the CITB HS&E test in Welsh?
- You can request a Welsh voiceover, which reads the questions and possible answers to you in Welsh while the on screen text stays in English. It is booked as a reasonable adjustment in the online booking journey and is only available at Pearson Professional Centres. CITB also runs a Welsh language booking line on 0344 994 4490.
- Are the CF postcode centres in Cardiff?

CSCS test centres in Belfast

Before you look for a test centre in Belfast, check which card you actually need, because Northern Ireland runs its own scheme. The industry approved card scheme here is the Construction Skills Register (CSR), not CSCS, and a CSR card is earned through a health and safety course and assessment rather than through the CITB HS&E test. The CITB test can still be sat in Belfast, and the centres CITB currently lists in and around Belfast are set out below, but for most people working in Northern Ireland booking that test is the wrong first move.

The BT postcode area covers the whole of Northern Ireland rather than just Belfast, so a BT postcode tells you almost nothing about how far you will travel. Belfast itself runs roughly BT1 to BT17. The Internet Test Centres CITB currently lists for Northern Ireland are spread across other towns, and at least one of them carries Belfast in its trading name while being registered somewhere else entirely, which is exactly the trap a postcode search will not save you from. - Do I need a CSCS card to work on a site in Belfast?
- Usually not. Northern Ireland's industry approved scheme is CSR, the Construction Skills Register, and that is what main contractors, clients and government here generally ask for. CSCS is the Great Britain scheme. If nobody has specifically asked you for CSCS, the CSR route is the one to look at first.
- Is the CSR card the same as passing the CITB HS&E test?
- No, and this is the single most useful thing to get straight. A CSR card is earned by completing at least one day of health and safety training with an accredited CSR provider, followed by a skills assessment. The CITB HS&E test is a 45 minute, 50 question exam sat at a test centre. They are different products from different organisations, and passing one does not give you the other.
- Can I still sit the CITB HS&E test in Belfast?
- Yes. A Pearson Professional Centre in central Belfast appears in the official CITB branded centre locator, so the test is genuinely available in the city. There is no Internet Test Centre with a Belfast address on CITB's map, so the Pearson centre is the practical option. Book it if an employer or a CSCS card application specifically requires the CITB test.
- Will a CSR card get me onto a site in England or Scotland?
- CEF says yes. Its own guidance states that CSR is affiliated to CSCS in Great Britain and is accepted as equivalent to CSCS, and a separate CEF page describes a signed Affiliation Agreement under which CSR cards are accepted in the UK. If you are moving between Northern Ireland and Great Britain for work, check with the principal contractor before you travel, but the scheme owner's position is clear.
- How much does the CSR route cost compared with the CITB test?
- The CITB HS&E test has one national price, £23.50. CSR does not work that way. CEF states that training providers set their own prices for the health and safety training and skills assessment, so the cost varies by provider, and the training then has to be refreshed every four years. Get quotes from a couple of accredited providers rather than assuming a single figure.

- Vouchers only work at Pearson Professional Centres. If you bought a CITB test voucher, do not book an ITC slot with it.
- Request support when booking. Voiceovers, BSL interpreters and reading support are arranged at the point of booking, and are only available at Pearson Professional Centres.
Does the centre affect the test?
No. The exam is identical wherever you sit it: 50 questions, 45 minutes, 45/50 to pass, £23.50. Centres differ only in location, available slots and the support they can provide. Pick the one you can reach comfortably. Arriving stressed and late is the real risk.
