About CSCS Practice Test

Who we are

CSCS Practice Testis a small, independently run UK site. We research the CITB HS&E test and the CSCS card scheme, write practice questions and explanations, and publish plain-English guides to the bits of the process that confuse people. Everything on the site is free to use and there is no sign-up.

We are writers and researchers, not safety assessors. We are not affiliated with CITB, CSCS Ltd or Pearson VUE, and we say so on every page. See our scope and limitations for exactly what that means.

Why we built it

The CITB HS&E test costs £23.50 a go, has a brutal 90% pass mark, and the information around it is scattered and frequently out of date. While researching this site we found competitor pages still quoting the old £22.50 fee, still listing eight specialist topics when the official list has been twelve for years, and still calling the revision book by a code CITB retired.

Somebody paying two days' wages for a test and a card deserves better than that. So the rule here is simple: check it against the official source, date it, and say plainly when we do not know.

What we do

• Free mock tests

  Full 50-question timed mocks that mirror the real format: 45 minutes, 90% pass mark, multi-answer questions flagged, and a per-topic score breakdown at the end.

• Practice by topic

  Question banks for each of the CITB knowledge topics, untimed, with a worked explanation after every question so you learn the reasoning and not just the answer.

• Guides to the process

  Which card needs which test, what the test costs, what ID to bring, what happens if you fail, and what changed in the rules for 2025 and 2026.

Who stands behind the content

CSCS Practice Test publishes as a brand rather than under personal bylines, and we would rather be judged on work you can check than on a name you cannot. Every factual claim about the test, the fee or the card is sourced to CITB, CSCS, HSE or legislation.gov.uk, the sources are listed openly at the foot of each topic page, and anything we could not verify against one of them has been left out rather than approximated. Our sources and methodology sets out exactly how that is done, and the editorial policy covers how questions are written and checked.

Nobody writing here holds a formal construction health and safety qualification, and we do not imply otherwise. For authority on health and safety law, go to the HSE. For the official position on the test or the card, go to CITB and CSCS. What this site is for is explaining what they said and giving you questions to practise on.

How we are funded

The site is free and we intend to keep it that way. At the moment it carries no advertising and no affiliate links, and earns nothing at all. If that changes it will be display advertising, or affiliate links to revision products such as the official CITB publications, and any commission would come at no extra cost to you and would never change what we recommend or what we say a fee is. We have written those rules down in advance in our affiliate disclosure.
