CSCS Test Languages: Voiceovers and Translation
The CITB Health, Safety and Environment test you sit for a UK construction CSCS card is available with a voiceover in 14 languages, but only on the Operatives test. Here is what each version offers and how to book it.
The one thing to know first
A voiceover reads the questions and answers aloud in your language. The words on the screen stay in English whichever language you choose. CITB is explicit about this, and it catches people out: if you were expecting to read the test in Polish or Romanian, you will still be reading English and listening in your own language.
The 14 voiceover languages
These are available on the Operatives test, which is the version most site workers and labourers take.
- English
- Welsh
- Bulgarian
- Czech
- French
- German
- Hungarian
- Lithuanian
- Polish
- Portuguese
- Punjabi
- Romanian
- Russian
- Spanish
What each test offers
| Test | Voiceover | Reading the questions |
|---|---|---|
| Operatives | All 14 languages | English only |
| Specialist | English and Welsh only | English only |
| Managers and Professionals | English only | English, or Welsh on screen |
The Managers and Professionals row is the one people get wrong, including some competitor pages. MAP has no Welsh voiceover. What it has is an on-screen Welsh translation, so you read the Welsh rather than hear it. Those are different things, and if you need to listen rather than read, MAP will not give you that in Welsh.
How to book a language
English and Welsh: book it yourself online
Both are options in the normal booking journey. Nothing extra to arrange. See how to book the CSCS test.
The other 12 languages: phone or email CITB first
These are arranged by the CITB Adjustments team, not through the standard online booking. Call 0344 994 4491 or email citb.adjustments@pearson.com. Tell them which test you need, which centre you want, and which language.
Book early. CITB warns that waiting times can be longer than usual because a suitable appointment has to be arranged.
Your language is not on the list
CITB can provide a translator who attends the test centre with you, offered specifically where there is no voiceover in your language. You get a separate room and extra time. This is arranged through the same Adjustments team, and it is covered in more detail on our CSCS test support and reasonable adjustments page.
Revising in your own language
The official CITB Operatives app carries the same 14 voiceover languages as the test, which makes it the closest match to what you will hear on the day. CITB does not state that the printed GT100 book comes in languages other than English, so if you need another language, plan around the app rather than the book. Our CSCS revision app page compares the options.
Whichever language you revise in, the questions on our CSCS test questions and answers are in English, which is what you will be reading in the real test anyway. That makes a free CSCS practice test useful preparation whatever voiceover you book, because the reading is the part that does not change.
Language list, per-test availability and contact details verified directly against CITB's support page for the HS&E test on 31 July 2026. CITB's own page renders the adjustments number in one place as an unusable nine-digit string; the correct number is 0344 994 4491, as given at the foot of that page.
