CSCS Practice Test

My CSCS

My CSCS is the official CSCS app, which CSCS call a Digital Skills Passport. It is where you apply for or renew a card, and where your digital card lives. It is run by CSCS Ltd, not by us.

Read this before you go any further

You cannot log in here. This is an independent CSCS revision site. We are not CSCS, we are not CITB, and we have no access whatsoever to your account, your card or your application. If you came looking for a CSCS card login, the only two official places are the My CSCS app and CSCS Online. Go there, not here.

What we do instead: free practice questions for the CITB HS&E test you need before the card. Read our scope, limitations and independence statement for exactly what we are and are not.

What My CSCS actually is

It is easy to assume My CSCS is just a place to view your card. It is bigger than that, and the parts people miss are the useful ones. CSCS describe it as the quickest way to apply for or renew a card, and it covers four jobs:

  • Applying and renewing. You upload your qualification or qualification registration documents and select your occupation, and the app's AI-powered application process confirms the right card for you. The four routes in are: upload a qualification, select an occupation, say you are registered for a qualification, or say you are new to construction.
  • Holding your digital card. Once an application is approved, the digital card appears in the app immediately.
  • My Skills. A section for further training, CPD evidence and other records, which builds into a CV-style skills summary you can share. It is app only: CSCS confirm you cannot add skills through the CSCS Online website, and uploads must be JPG, PNG or PDF under 5MB.
  • Proving your status. Cards in the app are verified by an employer through CSCS Smart Check, using a dynamic QR code or manual entry. If you need to Check a CSCS Card yourself, whether it is yours or somebody else's, that is the same tool and it is free.

Only individuals can apply through the app. CSCS state that employers, training providers and third parties should use CSCS Online, though they may still want their workforce to download the app.

Digital card against plastic card

The most common worry we see is whether a phone screen will be accepted at the gate. On what it proves, CSCS are unambiguous: a digital CSCS card is exactly the same as a plastic card.

QuestionDigital card in My CSCSPhysical card
When do you get it?As soon as the application is approvedWithin 10 working days of the application being processed
Can it get you on site?Yes, straight away, per CSCSYes
What does it show?Photograph, qualifications, training, occupation, expiry dateThe same details
How is it checked?Smart Check, by dynamic QR code or manual entrySmart Check
Can you lose it?It is tied to your account rather than your pocketYes, and a replacement is a separate application

Lost, stolen and damaged plastic cards are covered on CSCS card expiry and replacement. If you are unsure which card you should hold at all, start with what a CSCS card is then compare your role against the CSCS card types.

When you cannot get in

This is the search that brings most people here, so here is what CSCS publish, and nothing beyond it. We cannot help you directly and we will not guess at steps we have not seen.

  • An error or error code in the app. CSCS recommend updating or re-installing the app, which they say often resolves it. Errors are recorded automatically and sent to their technical team.
  • If it still fails, use the web instead. CSCS state that you can still apply, renew and manage your details through CSCS Online. A broken app should never cost you an application.
  • A certificate will not upload. For My Skills, the file must be JPG, PNG or PDF and no larger than 5MB.
  • My Skills is not showing. CSCS say to update or re-download the app and try again.
  • Nothing above worked. Contact CSCS directly. Their Help Centre and the other official routes are listed on our CSCS contact number page.

Verified against Self-Verified in My Skills

This distinction is worth understanding before you share a skills summary with an employer. Verifiedmeans a document submitted as part of a card application that CSCS have since approved, such as an S/NVQ or a CITB HS&E test. Self-Verified means something you uploaded yourself that CSCS have not checked, such as a toolbox talk or a CPD certificate. An employer can tell the two apart, so do not assume a self-uploaded certificate carries the same weight. CSCS also advise sharing your summary only with people and organisations you trust.

What the app cannot do, and what we can

My CSCS handles the card. It does not handle the exam that comes before it, and that trips up a lot of people. CSCS and CITB are completely separate organisations, and the CITB HS&E test is owned and operated by CITB. It costs £23.50, it is booked directly through CITB, and CSCS state plainly that they cannot arrange it. The card application fee is a separate £36, and the Apprentice card is free. More on the money in CSCS card cost, and on the process in CSCS card application and renewal.

Most cards need a CITB HS&E test pass from within the previous two years. That is the bit we exist for, and it is free.

Sources read August 2026, both returning HTTP 200: the official My CSCS page and the My CSCS app support page at cscs.uk.com, plus the CSCS contact page for the card fee, the test fee and the 10 working day delivery time. We are not affiliated with CSCS Ltd or CITB, we operate no login, and we cannot access any card record. See scope and limitations.

My CSCS: common questions

What is My CSCS?
My CSCS is the official CSCS app. CSCS describe it as your digital skills passport and as the quickest way to apply for or renew a CSCS card. It also stores your digital card for site access, and holds your qualifications, skills and training records in one place. It is published by CSCS on Google Play and the App Store.
Where do I log in to my CSCS card account?
In the official My CSCS app, or in CSCS Online at cscsonline.uk.com. Those are the only two places. No revision site, including this one, can log you in, look up your card or reset anything on your account.
Is the digital CSCS card as good as the plastic one?
For proving your status on site, yes. CSCS state that a digital CSCS card is exactly the same as a plastic card, appears in the app as soon as an application is approved, and can be used straight away to access site. It shows your photograph, qualifications, training, occupation and expiry date, the same as the physical card.
What do I do if the My CSCS app will not work?
CSCS advise updating or re-installing the app, which they say often resolves the problem. Errors are recorded automatically and sent to their technical team. If the app still will not play ball, CSCS say you can apply, renew and manage your details through CSCS Online instead, so a broken app does not block your application.
Can my employer apply for my card through the app?
No. CSCS state that only individuals can apply via My CSCS. Employers, training providers and third parties should use CSCS Online instead. They can still encourage their workforce to download the app for the digital card and skills passport.
Does My CSCS book my CITB HS&E test?
No. CSCS and CITB are completely separate organisations. The HS&E test is owned and operated by CITB, costs £23.50, and is booked directly through CITB. CSCS state they cannot assist with or arrange test bookings, and the app is no exception.
