CSCS Flashcards: What Exists and What to Watch For
Flashcards suit the CITB HS&E test well, because a lot of it is recall: sign shapes, extinguisher colours, reporting limits. The problem is that no official set exists, and the ones you will find have a specific trap in them.
Check you are looking at the right CSCS
Search "CSCS flashcards" in an app store and most of what comes back is for the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist exam, an American fitness qualification that shares the initials. Thousands of cards on exercise physiology and periodisation, nothing about scaffolds or COSHH. If the cards mention muscle groups or the NSCA, you have the wrong exam. The UK one is the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test, sat for a construction site card.
There is no official CITB flashcard set
CITB publishes GT100 and GT200 as question-and-answer revision books, plus an app with timed test simulations. It does not sell flashcards, physical or digital. Anything presented as official flashcards is somebody else's product.
The user-made decks
Free decks exist on the usual study-card platforms, written by people who sat the test. Some are decent. The catch is that nobody checks them: a deck built from a 2019 revision book still looks exactly like a current one, and a card that was right when it was written stays in circulation long after the guidance moves on. You are also trusting a stranger's understanding of a safety rule, which is a different risk from trusting their spelling.
If you use one, treat it as drilling rather than learning. Get the rule from a source that cites where it came from first, then use cards to make it stick.
Build your own, from the topics you keep dropping
Flashcards work best on the handful of things you personally keep getting wrong, not on all 50 questions. The efficient version is to run the topic banks, note what you miss, and make cards only for those.

All of our CSCS test questions and answers carry an explanation, so a card you make from them keeps the reason attached to the fact. That matters on this test, because questions often ask what you should do rather than what the rule is called. Cards are a tactic rather than a plan, so fit them into a wider CSCS test revision routine rather than relying on them alone.
Once the recall is solid, test it under time pressure with a CITB mock test. Forty-five minutes, 50 questions, 45 right to pass. If you would rather drill than read, a free CSCS practice test does the same job as a deck of cards and marks it for you.
